The Great Elmore Leonard Passes Away at 87

Celebrated, best-selling author, Elmore Leonard has passed away. He was 87.

Leonard, according to his writer’s researcher, passed away at 7:15 am Tuesday morning from complications from his stroke. Leonard had suffered a stroke last month, on July 29.

In the span of his critically acclaimed and beloved career, Leonard penned more than 45 books and a multitude of short stories. A good number of them were later adapted into movies or for TV including films like Get Shorty, Out of Sight, Hombre, Mr. Majestyk, 3:10 to Yuma, Jackie Brown, and the FX series Justified.

The upcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will actually have the honor of closing with the world premiere of Daniel Schechter‘s crime tale, Life of Crime, which happens to be based on Leonard’s The Switch. The movie will feature actors like Jennifer Aniston, John Hawkes, Mos Def, Isla Fisher, and Tim Robbins.

R.I.P Elmore Leonard. You will be missed.
