I don’t know about you, but in a summer where most movies weren’t quite were they should’ve been, I thoroughly enjoyed Fast and Furious 6 and recent news surrounding the sequel, Fast and Furious 7, is making me all that more excited.
Fast and Furious 7 is already peaking the interest of most with the addition of an antagonist played by Jason Statham and the addition of horror director James Wan (The Conjuring). Add such news with the fact that Wan plans on giving Fast and Furious 7 “a gritty ’70s revenge thriller” feel and you have got one bad-ass project on your hands.
On top of that, Screen Rant and THR have recently reported that Tony Jaa, a Thai action star best known for the internationally-successful Ong Bak, will be joining the cast. This role will be his first go at a big studio release and will also serve as his first English-speaking role. It’s yet to be announced whether or not he’ll be a protagonist or an antagonist.
I’m excited for this. The Fast and Furious franchise has proven that it’s definitely into experimenting with its story and its wonderfully diverse cast of characters. And honestly, not a lot of other franchises can say that.
Also, if this goes over well for Jaa, he could be looked at as the next Jackie Chan or Jet Li. He’s proven so far that he’s got the moves. Let’s hope that the movie can somehow showcase his acting chops.
