Doctor Who Season 8 Will Not Premiere Until Autumn 2014

Alas, dear Doctor Who fans.

You will not be seeing your beloved Doctor until 2014.

My condolences.

Well, if you’re not counting the 50th Anniversary Special and Christmas Special…which you should.

Moving on, Screen Rant is reporting that the eighth season of (the revamped) Doctor Who will not be returning autumn 2014.

That’s right.

That’s a whole year away.

Doctor Who showrunner, Steven Moffat, had this to say about the matter when he spoke with The Guardian:

“Doctor Who may not be quite the force it was when it returned with Christopher Eccleston and in its David Tennant heyday in the UK, but has a growing audience in the US on cable channel BBC America.

It will not return next year until the autumn, giving it plenty of time to recharge batteries. And what better way to do that than with a new Doctor?”

I’ll wait here while you pull yourself back together.

Anyways, I’m curious as to why it’s been pushed back so far, especially considering the nearly, earth-shattering, and initial six month delay between the season 7 finale and the anniversary special’s November air-date. Hopefully, Moffat is trying to make sure that season 8 is kick-ass and possibly starts off with a bang?

Eh.

Who the hell knows?
