[RUMOR DEBUNKED]: Benedict Cumberbatch Camp Denies ‘Star Wars VII’ Rumors

If you were one of the many people that were excited to see Benedict Cumberbatch make his debut in the Star Wars universe, do I have some news for you.

Cumberbatch’s rep recently denied that the Star Trek star would be appearing in the J. J. Abrams-directed Star Wars: Episode VII.

Here’s a few words from his rep (Courtesy of CinemaBlend):

There is no truth to the rumor Benedict has been cast in ‘Star Wars.’ I think the rumors are circling because J.J. and Benedict have just recently had a wonderful time working together on ‘Star Trek’”.

I know right?

According to Deadline, Cumberbatch has instead entered talks to replace Brad Pitt in the movie Lost City of Z. The movie is being directed by James Grey, who adapted the script from the David Grann novel of the same name.

If the negotiations go well, Cumberbatch will fill the role of Percy Fawcett, an explorer who happened upon a mystical city somewhere in the Brazilian amazon in 1925. When Fawcett was thought to be a fraud after the fact, he led a 3-person expedition back into the jungle and wasn’t heard from again.

Neither do I.

On one hand, I’m sad that such an awesome rumor turned out to not be true. On the other hand, I’m still somewhat curious.

In the past, actors and actresses haven’t been above lying about what roles they may be up for or what roles they may be eying (A good example is Marion Cotillard, who famously lied about her role as Talia al Ghul/Miranda Tate in The Dark Knight Rises). Could this be the case with Sir Benedict Cumberbatch?

Who the hell knows?

But we can dream, right?
