However, Emmerich recently sat down with Digital Spy and is now singing a different tune:
I sometimes say no, Will Smith will not be in it because he didn’t want to do it at first. Now we have a meeting planned, we want to talk about it again. Anything can happen.
Even though I love Will Smith (he’s one of my favorite movie stars. Fact.), I’m pretty sure that the sh*tfest that was After Earth should be credited for his change of heart.
I went there.
I’m that asshole.
Moving on, Emmerich also discussed the fact that the film’s release date is still being looked at. Even though it is slated for July 3, 2015, it may in fact be pushed back to 2016, especially if Smith joins the project.
Personaly, I would definitely recommend that move, lest the summer movie season of 2015 be too bloated and unforgiving. It also gives Emmerich time to make a great movie and that should be the priority over everything.
In closing, I’m hoping Will joins the project. I’m always excited to see him in whatever movie.
Except After Earth.
F*ck After Earth.
