A handful of people in Hollywood can attest to the fact that overcoming addiction is often painfully hard as f*ck, but often times, not impossible.
Say what you want about Jersey Shore, but Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is one of those Hollywood people who knows the struggle of addiction.
Recently, he chatted with the Associated Press and shed some light on his 2012 stint in rehab (where we sought treatment for opioid addiction) and debunked rumors on his alleged alcohol abuse:
“Those rumors were definitely false. I didn’t mix anything.”
Sorrentino figured he had a problem when his prescription ran out on a trip to Australia back in 2012; he had been taking medication ever since his Dancing With the Stars injury in 2010:
“All I had to do was get dressed for a family function and I couldn’t do that. The shirt was laid out, the belt, the pants, everything. The shower was on. I couldn’t even get out of bed,” he recalled. Then, he wondered, “‘If I can’t do that, how am I going to continue?'”
He eventually sought out treatment in Utah (at the Cirque Lodge). Looking back on it now, Sorrentino admits that he had been suffering from a disease. However, he hopes that his struggle can inspire others who are also suffering the horror that is addiction:
“The roller coaster of fame and fortune is definitely a ride in itself, but to get to recovery is something special. There is hope out there and you can get help.”
