‘Pirates of the Caribbean 5’ Pushed to Summer 2016 Release

It seems like the summer movie season of 2015 just got less crowded.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and company have decided to bump Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales to the following summer, in 2016.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer further explained (in an interview with THR) that the movie was being pushed back due to script issues. However, he’s optimistic that it will be ready for 2016:

We have an outline everyone loves but the script is not done.”

It makes sense that Disney would try to be careful with this movie. Even though they have three other movies coming out in the summer of 2015 , (read more about that here), I assume that they want to avoid another flop that’s reminiscent of John Carter or The Lone Ranger.

Bruckheimer also explained that the budget was a factor in the release date decision too:

It’s all a factor. We want a script that everyone’s signed off on and a budget that everyone’s signed off on. Coming up with a great script is always hard and after this summer, everybody’s more cautious.”

No kidding there.

Just ask the aforementioned The Lone Ranger, White House Down, RIPD, Turbo, and many, many others.

Anyways, I’m glad that they’re taking their time with this movie and learning from their previous mistakes. Here’s to hoping that they finish the script in a timely manner .

Good call on that release date move, Disney.
