4 Movies I’m Looking Forward To This Fall

Now that it is officially Fall, I’ve started wracking my brain (and prepping my wallet) as I try to decide which movies will be worth seeing this fall. Since I am on “broke college kid status”, time and money are obviously of the essence. As a result (and after like three days of heated deliberation and debate), here are the top four movies that I’m looking forward to this fall:

4.Her

Like I previously talked about, who doesn’t want to see their favorite A.I. in a heated romance? (I kid, I kid). Moving on, I’m mostly excited because I get to see Joaquin Phoenix go to work again after an awesome turn in The Master. On top of that, there is the added bonus of seeing (actually, in this case, hearing) Scarlet Johansson more than once this fall (see the next movie below) and from what I’ve seen from the trailer, Johansson will be proving to be a very witty and endearing A.I. system.

Also, the involvement of other stars like Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde and Chris Pratt is another fairly compelling reason to show up for this movie. I have high expectations for this movie.

Damn skippy.

3. Don Jon

Being honest, I love a good Joseph Gordon-Levitt movie (I mean, who doesn’t? The guy is seriously talented!) and I’ve seen most of them (aside from Premium Rush. I still have to see that). Anyways, I’m really excited for this movie because not only is it going to serve as Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut, but it will also feature stars like Tony Danza, Julianne Moore, and the aforementioned Scarlet Johansson (just to name a few).

Additionally, the premise of the movie seems very unlike Hollywood (and that’s a good thing) in that it deals with a good number of false/unrealistic expectations that Hollywood has saddled the general populous with, especially when it comes to things like love. All in all, I am interested to see whether or not JGL succeeds in subverting the Rom-com genre and turning it on its head.

Get ready!

Bonus: I am beyond excited to see Scarlet Johansson do a Jersey accent. That sh*t even sounds funny on paper.

2. Gravity

Even though fellow writer AJ Parker previously gushed about this movie, I can’t harp on it enough when I say that I are incredibly stoked. Not only has this movie gotten stellar early reviews, but it features stars like Sandra Bullock (I freakin’ love her) and George Clooney (who is always welcome).

The best part about this movie is the fact that the trailer doesn’t give too much sh*t away like most trailer these days and the premise looks refreshingly original, thrilling, and compelling too (I mean, space is so vast and it really doesn’t get explored enough…aside from aliens and sh*t). And let’s be real, most of us have no f*cking idea how this movie will end, but to me, that makes it all the more worthwhile to watch.

To infinity and be–wait. That’s not right.

1. Thor: The Dark World

It’s no secret that I’m extremely hype for Thor: The Dark World (see the blinking countdown clock to the utmost right of our website). After being less than impressed with Iron Man 3, I am hoping that the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe delivers in all the ways that the aforementioned film was not able too.

Additionally, I’m hoping that Thor: TDW is way better and stronger movie than its predecessor. A major issue that I and a lot of other people had with Marvel’s Phase 1 movies is that though they were good, they could be really underwhelming at times (Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger [to some extent]) and sometimes had difficulty standing on their own (Iron Man 2, I’m looking at you). Regardless of all that, however, I’m confident that such issues will be fixed in this new film.

And, I’m always glad to see the stellar cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Christopher Eccleston, Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Jaimie Alexander, Natalie Portman, Idris Elba, Stellan Skarsgård and Kat Dennings.

It needs to be November like…now.

Bonus: This film looks so Game of Thrones-esque so far; so, count me in.

Honorable Mentions

Dallas Buyers Club:

The dedication alone that it took to make this movie (Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey lost a combined sum of over 70 pounds; holy sh*t) and it’s subject matter make it very likely that I’ll be heading out to see this movie this fall.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire:

Jennifer Lawrence/Katniss Everdeen IS “the girl on fire” and I’m stoked to see her navigate these new Hunger Games, (which stand to be more visceral and more heart-wrenching than the first).

A.C.O.D.:

Comedies are good, but comedies that have heart really get to me and A.C.O.D. looks like it’s going to be just that. So, count me in (most likely)!

Carrie:

Being completely honest, Chloë Moretz Grace and Julianne Moore are more than enough of a reason for me to go see this movie.

I want to hear from you guys. What movies are you most excited to see? Let me know in the comments below!
