To be honest, not only is it awesome to be comic book fan right now, but it is also awesome to be a TV fan as well. These days, for better or for worse, various ideas and pitches (and spinoffs) are finding a home on the small screen and DC’s Gotham Central may be up for such treatment.
Besides shows like Arrow, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and the upcoming The Flash spinoff, comic fans should be excited to know that there may be a Gotham Central TV show in the works.
According to Uproxx, comic creators Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka‘s Gotham police series is being considered for the TV treatment. In previous years, most people were warned not to touch characters in the Batman franchise, (lest they draw the burning ire of a thousand fanboys).
However, now that we have shows like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, interest has once again peaked in the Gotham series. And you know, I think it’d be exciting to see ordinary Gotham cops trying to deal with exceedingly f*cked supervillians and with a batsh*t crazy vigilante (that pun was most definitely intended). Even as someone who is very much in Marvel’s corner, dare I say that I’d be slightly more interested in a Gotham series versus the aforementioned S.H.I.E.L.D series.
Here’s what Brubaker had to say about the matter:
The book is actually more popular now than when we were doing it. There’s been talk of ‘Gotham Central’ on TV since when we were doing the comic even (in the mid-2000s). Everyone at Warner Bros. really loved it. Chris Nolan after they did ‘Birds of Prey’ had asked them to just please not do any Batman-related stuff until he was done with his trilogy — looking at ‘Birds of Prey,’ you can see why. It was not the world’s greatest pilot.
Granted, no official plans for development have surfaced from WB/DC, but I definitely wouldn’t put it past them, especially since that Flash spinoff is definitely on its way. If Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D delivers like I think it will, I expect an announcement from WB/DC about this Gotham Central show not to far down the line.
Also, here’s to hoping that WB/DC finds a way to intertwine its TV-verse with its movieverse,
What do you think? Yay or nay to a potential Gotham Central movie? Let me know in the comments below!
