If you’re reading this, you no doubt caught my recent post about Kanye West‘s odd (albeit entertaining) Twitter rant that was directed at late-night host Jimmy Kimmel about a recent spoof. As Kimmel promised on Twitter, he decided to address the matter on his show last night.
Kimmel opened up the show with a monologue that started with this sentence:
“Quick question, did anyone else get a very angry phone call from Kanye West about an hour and a half ago? Just me? OK, I didn’t know if he was mad at all of us.”
About 15 minutes later, Kimmel recalled the phone call he received form West before the aforementioned rant happened:
“He told me I had two choices: apologize publicly…and that was really the only choice!” Jimmy elaborated. “The other choice he gave was that my life—’Your life,’ he laughed, ‘is going to be much better if you apologize.’ Then he started tweeting today and I don’t even know if I’ve seen some of these tweets, because they’re happening as we speak…”
After that, Kimmel ceremoniously rolled out the infamous tweets and gave his response to each and everyone of them. When he got to the tweet that mentioned Ben Affleck, he had this to say:
“Which, by the way, was a spoof,” Jimmy reminded usof the Affleck tweet. “I don’t know if he thought that was news.”He also humorously addressed the hashtags at the end of that tweet (#nodisrespecttobenaffleck and “#alldisrespecttojimmykimmel). “A lot of hash in those tags.”
Kimmel also went on about what other things West had to say to him:
“And he told me this on the phone, I swear,” Kimmel continued, “he said, ‘I am the most powerful voice in media. I am ‘Pac! He said ‘I am ‘Pac’ a few times to me. He said, ‘You’ll never be able to show your face at a 14-year-old’s high school football game and be cool again.’”
“He really is ‘Pac,” Jimmy smiled, (though he looked slightly confused). “That’s right out of the Tupac playbook, isn’t it?”
“I don’t understand it, I don’t know why he’s angry again,” The funnyman added. “I thought the bit was pretty innocuous. Finally I’m in a rap feud.”
“Right now we’re at Def-Kanye Five,” Jimmy wrapped up the Kanye-related discussion. “Thanks, Kanye, appreciate it.”
Kimmel plans on keeping us all posted (and we shall too), even though all is quiet (for now) in the Twitterverse.
