It seems like yet another film has found “the one”…as in its premier writer.
Moving on, even though there was clearly a reboot (it was understandably not as beloved, but still) back in 2011 that featured
Drago Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) in the lead, the powers that be have decided that there are going to kickoff a new trilogy that will once again feature franchise vet Arnold Schwarzenegger and have recruited Andrea Berloff for the Herculean Conan effort.
Berloff’s writing repertoire isn’t exactly all that expansive (yet), but she does have Oliver Stone‘s World Trade Center under her belt. So, we’ll have to see whether or not she is up to the challenge of (successfully) bringing the Conan series back to the silver screen.
Anyways, the good news for Conan fans is that the series won’t be taking the annoying (yet increasingly common) “passing-the-franchise-to-some-kid-who’s-clearly-not-ready-for-it-yet-and-may-in-fact-fail-miserably” trend. If you’re unfamiliar with this phenomenon, please see A Good Day to Die Hard and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Instead, the film will apparent see Schwarzenegger’s Conan appear as “an aged barbarian king who has taken up the sword again after years of retirement” (Screen Rant).
I can (possibly) get behind that.
