TV’s been super active this week and as always, we’re here to inform you about it:
CBS (Finally) Renews The Crazy Ones, Mom, and The Millers
It’s been less than twenty hours since I declared that The Crazy Ones would be renewed soon…and lo and behold, I come bearing such news today.
Even though took a huge blow with the cancellation of their freshman comedy We Are Men, CBS has taken a leap of faith and have granted full-season orders to The Crazy Ones (led by Robin Williams and Sarah Michelle Gellar), The Millers (led by Will Arnett) and Mom (led by Anna Faris and Chuck Lorre). All three comedies have ranked as most-watched new comedies of the current season.
CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler released the following statement about the aforementioned pickups:
“We’re proud of CBS’s leadership position in comedy and excited to build on it with the back nine pick-ups of these three new comedies. These series are creatively distinct, continue to improve each week and are led by strong showrunners, writing and production staffs, and feature amazingly talented casts.”
CBS also holds the honor of being the first network to issue pickups for the first new fall comedies. As of right now, ABC and FOX have only issued pickups for the current (and successful) comedies.
Straun Rodgers Joins Game of Thrones as The Bloodraven (possibly)
While Game of Throne fans are awaiting season 4, the show continues to add to its already amazing cast.
Recently, according to Zap2It and Screen Crush, actor Straun Rodger has joined the cast…presumably as the “Three-Eyed Raven”. So far, such a character only made an appearance in Bran Stark’s (played by Issac Hempstead) dreams. Many are speculating that Rodger may turn out to be Lord Brynden Rivers (aka Bloodraven) closer to the end of Bran’s over-arching arc.
However, the character actually doesn’t appear (in his entirety) until George R.R. Martin’s fifth novel, A Dance With Dragons. Because of this, it may be safe to say that Roger’s will make minor appearances in dreams until the latter end of season for and then return for a full role in season 5.
Kerry Washinton to Host SNL on November 2; Eminem Will Be the Musical Guest
Unless you’ve been hiding under a big-ass rock, you’re probably aware that SNL has been embroiled in quite the controversy lately for continuing to fail to incorporate women of color in either the main cast or even hosting duties. However, it would seem that the show is attempting to quell some of the outrage by snagging Scandal’s Kerry Washington for hosting purposes.
I’m happy to see that Washington will be hosting and all (she is amazing), but if SNL thinks that this development will end their diversity-related woes, they are sorely mistaken. However, I will say that this is a step in the right direction.
So what say you? Are you excited that The Crazy Ones finally got its full season order? How excited are you that Straun Rodgers is joining Game of Thrones? What do you say about SNL’s diversity-related woes? Let me know in the comments below!
