Music News From Around The Web: Eminem, Britney Spears, and More

It’s been a hot minute since we’ve reported any music news. And in that “hot minute”, we’ve seen everything from new album releases, fresh video debuts, new album leaks and so much more. It’s been a busy couple of weeks in music; so bear with us as we attempt to update you on all (most) of it.

So, without further ado, here is your music news from around the web:

Eminem, the “Rap God” is on fire lately. Not only has his new album scored the second-biggest debut of the year (behind Justin Timberlake’s “The 20/20 Experience”), but he also reigned in at number 1 on the Billboard 200.

Damn, son. I see you.

Slim Shady’s been quite busy as of late and to be honest, it’s starting to pay off. The release of MMLP2 marks Eminem’s seventh consecutive number 1 album. His only album to miss out on that number 1 honor was his first one (The Slim Shady EP, 1999).

And you want to hear something more impressive than that? Well, according to Billboard, MMLP2 accounted for “1 out of every 7.2 albums sold” this past week (Billboard).

Anyways, I’m super impressed with Eminem lately and as always, I will continue to listen/look out for any new stuff that he pushes our way. Other than that, if you haven’t yet, I’d give a listen to songs like “Monster” and “Berzerk” off of his new album (“Rap God” is worth a listen too).

With that being said, I want his album. NOW.

(You can read more about that here and here).

Moving on, Britney Spears has been quite busy as well. On top of having recently released the raw, yet addicting single “Perfume”, Britney also recently unveiled the full tracklist for her upcoming album, Britney Jean.

The latter move is a result of what Spears called “sneaky hackers”. As always, it appears that they were attempting to release the tracklist before its official release date.

Silly hackers. Britney’s got you beat.

Spears released the new tracklist via her Twitter account and so far, it looks rather intriguing. Though I’m obviously going to save my final judgment for when the album finally comes out on December 3, I am already interested in the people that are featured on it, including individuals like Will.I.Am, T.I., and baby sister Jamie Lynn Spears.

Anyways, you can check out Britney Spears’ tweet and full tracklist below:

1. “Alien”

2. “Work Bitch”

3. “Perfume”

4. “It Should Be Easy” feat. will.i.am

5. “Tik Tik Boom” feat. T.I.

6. “Body Ache”

7. “Til It’s Gone”

8. “Passenger”

9. “Chillin’ With You” feat. Jamie Lynn

Lorde, whose song “Royals” currently (STILL) sits upon Billboard’s Hot 100, recently unveiled a short tidbit of her cover of “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” for the upcoming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.

Again, I stand by my previous statement where I stated that the Catching Fire’s soundtrack is going to be the sh*t (I’m obviously paraphrasing myself, but you get the picture), especially since it features other artists like Christina Aguilera, The Lumineers, Ellie Goulding, Of Monsters and Men, Sia, The National, The Weeknd, Imagine Dragons, Patti Smith, Mikky Ekko, Santigold, Phantogram and Antony & The Johnsons.

What I’m doing right now as I listen to Lorde’s cover.

Moving on, the song was originally released by Tears for Fears in 1985. However, Lorde offers a very poignant (and significantly darker) rendition of the song, which should fit perfectly with the various themes and motifs within Catching Fire.

Tears for Fears’ Curt Smith has called Lorde’s rendition of the song amazing, but you be the judge. You can check out the captivating preview below:

Fox’s The X-Factor took a brutal hit when it came to ratings this past week.

But actually.

The show apparently opened to historically low ratings for this period of November, barely holding on to 3.8 million viewers.

Though The X-Factor was never a critical smash hit, the show held its own for a while. As of recently however, it has fallen 28% in its ratings when compared to the previous year. And though most would think that shows like New Girl, Sleepy Hollow, or even Glee are bound to pick up the slack, it doesn’t look like that is going to be the case at all, especially since such shows are also losing their pull in the ratings race.

Regardless, here’s to hoping that The X-Factor fares better next week, at least for Simon Cowell’s sake (aka the only reason I tune into the show [sometimes]; I gotta admit that I’m more of a The Voice fan).
