Before I calmly explain what is going on, please allow me the time to do this:
Back to more serious matters, not only did Marvel manage to dominate the week PR-wise (black Captain America and female Thor anyone? Also, their only real rival was Weird Al; God bless that guy), but they have now unleashed 5 new dates for some upcoming (and unannounced films). This means that Phase 3 will consist of an astounding nine films, which is a lot more than five.
Just let that thought marinate for a bit.
Check out the list of dates for yourself below:
May 1, 2015 – The Avengers: Age of Ultron
July 17, 2015 – Ant-Man
May 6, 2016 – Captain America 3 (Untitled)
July 8, 2016 – Doctor Strange (Unannounced)
May 5, 2017 – Unannounced
July 28, 2017 – Unannounced
November 3, 2017 – Unannounced
July 6, 2018 – Unannounced
November 2, 2018 – Unannounced
May 3, 2019 – The Avengers 3 (Unannounced)
This is some good sh*t.
I may have to shed a legitimate nerd tear over this.
Moving on, while we don’t really know what to expect from Phase 3 yet, other than Antman, Captain America 3, and Doctor Strange, I for one am glad for the many dates as it shows that Marvel is definitely expanding their brand and that Phase 3 is going to be one big ass phase. Additionally, due to various reports that we have viewed over the past year or so, I think it safe to assume that this phase will be dealing a lot more with Marvel’s cosmic/magic side, which should be exciting to see.
Can we also assume that The Avengers will finally face-off against Thanos? I’m not sure about that, but we can dare to dream.
Furthermore, one should also notice that Captain America 3 is listed and Thor 3 is not. Knowing fully well that Thor 3 will be announced at one point, I have to give Marvel props for not shying away from shaking up things—Thor films have always been released before Captain America films—and changing the status quo. And as Screen Rant has hypothesized, it’s a smart move, seeing as they can use the audacious god to introduce more unknown properties like The Inhumans.
Either way, color me excited because of the awesome news. Although, I only have this request for Marvel:
Please, PLEASE, let Phase 3 include a Black Panther movie and a Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel movie. If it doesn’t, I quit.
Stay tuned for some related announcements from San Diego’s 2014 Comic-Con!
So, while we are on the subject, what are YOUR hypotheses for Marvel’s upcoming movies? Let me know in the comments below.
