‘Star Wars 7’ Reveals First Official Look at New X-Wing; Plot Details for the Film Leak Online

It’s been a long road for the film already. The film saw its release date change a number of times and it also suffered slight backlash when people thought that the cast wasn’t nearly going to be as diverse as it was later revealed. However, it still has a ways to go.

So, to ease the long, waiting process and generate some hype for the film, Star Wars: Episode 7 director J.J. Abrams rolled out a video update from the set this morning. In the update, the new X-Wing Starfighter makes its debut (and is sure to excite Star Wars fans everywhere):

Fans may notice that it looks a teensy bit familiar. If you find yourself thinking this, it is because you have a very good reason. According to Screen Crush (who previously was able to score construction photos from the set), the new X-Wing’s design looks as if it is based on some original concept art from Ralph McQuarrie of the original trilogy. Initially, there was some speculation that the ship was actually a Z-95 Headhunter (those familiar with the expanded universe will recognize it). However, the film’s officially twitter account confirmed the opposite:

Personally, I believe that anything stemming from the original trilogy is good news.

I’m okay with this.

Moving on, the reveal also happened to be part of the “Force for Change” campaign (the campaign is demonstrating support and solidarity for UNICEF’s Innovation Lab and programs).

Abrams had this to say about the matter:

“As we close this final week, we’ve added an additional prize that allows the fans the opportunity to see the movie early as a thank you for supporting such a great cause as UNICEF’s innovative, lifesaving work for children” (Screen Crush).

As if such a prize is not grand enough, (the prize would also include a super cool visit to the Star Wars: Episode 7 set), all one has to do is contribute to this site to be entered into the contest. Also, kudos the Abrams and the Star Wars 7 team for using their influence for a good cause. We need more of that in this world.

Now, on to rumors and plot leaks!

If you were on the internet at all this weekend, you may have already noticed that some possible plot leaks from Star Wars 7 have already hit the web. If you missed it, we’re here to inform you.

Now if you are a vehemently against spoilers (like myself; case in point: I have gone to great lengths to avoid Guardians of the Galaxy news in order to have the full experience when I see it in theaters), I would leave now. If you are not, then you have nothing to be worried about.

So, without further ado, here are those leaked plot details (courtesy of Badass Digest’s Devein Faraci):

“Imagine the standard ‘Star Wars’ crawl, and when it ends the camera pans up to the stars. But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see… a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber.

That hand falls onto a desert planet, where it is discovered by characters who will be our heroes. One is Daisy Ridley. The other is John Boyega, who is playing someone trying to change his path in life (again, I’m keeping it vague here). They recognize the light saber as a Jedi relic and decide to return it to the proper people” (Badass Digest).

As soon as that happens, apparently Boyega and Ridley’s character travel through space, run into Han Solo and Chewbacca at one point and discover that the aforementioned lightsaber belongs to the legendary Luke Skywalker. Skywalker has apparently been M.I.A since Return of the Jedi happened (30 years ago). So, this new team sets out to find Skywalker, a goal that may bring them face-to-face with an enemy that has the capability to destroy entire solar systems.

Solar systems.

Plural.

Think about that.

The anticipation is killing me.

If you want to read more about the leaked details, you should head over to Badass Digest yourself and read up.

What do you guys think? Would you be happy if this turned out to be the plot or would you be mildly disappointed? Let me know in the comments below!
