It has been a long ass time since I wrote one of these.
Anyways, Benedict Cumberbatch—who is forever being fan-cast for things like Doctor Strange and etc—is back in the film Imitation Game. Cumberbatch stars as Alan Turning, also known as the man who cracked Germany’s Enigma code in WWII.
The actor has had some pretty spectacular and recent turns in films like August: Osage County, 12 Years A Slave, and Star Trek Into Darkness (for God’s sake, where is the f*cking colon!?). However, many are speculating that this new film could give him a shot at being nominated for an Oscar. Personally, I think we may be getting ahead of ourselves, but there is no denying that Cumberbatch looks as if he fits the part pretty well.
Here’s a synopsis (courtesy of Screen Crush):
During WWII, German forces were using a machine called “Enigma” to send encrypted messages. Basically, an operator would type a message into the device, which would then scramble it and display different letters of the alphabet. Turing is credited for cracking it and helping to end the war by what some say was two years. As the ‘Imitation Game’ trailer shows, there was, naturally, some drama going on behind the scenes among his colleagues. Eventually, Turing would be outed as gay, in a time which saw this as a scandal, and he would come to commit suicide.
Check out the trailer below:
It sounds like a promising film and it sounds like some serious subject matter will be covered.
Other than that, thespians like Matthew Goode, Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, Charles Dance, Rory Kinnear, Allen Leech, and Matthew Beard will be banding together to form the rest of the cast. Just by the mention of Knightley and Strong alone, I am already interested.
The Imitation Game will be released in theaters on November 21, 2014.
